A Woman is Not A Woman
Single channel HD video, color, stereo sound
A Woman is Not A Woman traces the mermaid myth from the statue in Copenhagen to one of the earliest sightings in 1653, the first account by a European in Korea, where women have been deep sea diving for centuries. Using diary entries, computer malfunctions, found footage and performance, the representation of history and the construction of the singular Western human is questioned. A worker holds her breath, a mermaid loses her head, a symbol accumulates across centuries. Lean in to nowhere.
